Moving route and track data to OMN

OMNC - OMN Classic launched in 2012

OMN - OMN launched in 2017.

OMNC uses a proprietary file format to keep route data called an adf file. (Anquet Database File).

OMN uses what is now the industry standard GPX file.

The two systems use very different technologies to communicate with Anquet Cloud where your routes are stored, and therefore there is no interaction in Anquet Cloud between the two systems.

The process to move your data is the following:

  1. Make sure you are running OMNC 1.0.9.33 (launched 4 May 2017) or later. You can see which version you are running by going into Settings->About

If you run up OMNC, close it and re-open it, it will offer to install any newer versions available.

  1. On the User Data Ribbon, click on Route Sync

This will make sure all of your data on Anquet Cloud is also locally on your machine.

  1. Click on the ‘Manage’ button next to the Route Sync button. This will bring up the ‘User Data Files’ window.

  2. Click on ‘Export All’ and pick a folder on your computer where you would like to export all of your data to.

In the screenshot below I have created a folder in My Documents called ‘OMNC GPX Export’

  1. Press OK, on the folder choosing box, and OMNC will now start to export your data one file at a time.

When the process has finished you will see your files in the directory you saved them to.

  1. OMN can import the GPX files you have exported. Please see this article for instructions on GPX importation into OMN.

Differences between adf (OMNC file format) and GPX (OMN file format)

I won't go into details here, but there are differences between what the two file formats are capable of, but one main difference applicable to this article is that the adf could cater for routes nested inside folders and other routes. In converting to GPX, we have to flatten out this hierarchical layout.

OMNC can nest folders inside folders. For OMN we have limited this to a list of single folders, mainly to keep interfaces simple on the mobile applications where treeviews are quite complicated on small screens. If in OMNC you had a folder Lakes, that contained a folder North, in the export you will have a folder called ‘Lakes.North’.
